Our story
It was the early 1950s when a man named Miguel Ramón González Santana, along with his wife, managed a small shop on the main street of the municipality of Morón, in what was then the province of Camagüey (now Ciego de Ávila), Cuba. Years later, that same island would be marked by a revolution that would end up ruining many dreams and ventures.
In that small shop, my paternal grandparents sold a wide variety of products, what we used to call "quincalla" in Cuba. One day, my grandfather's brother brought him some ornamental fish to give away to his most loyal customers. However, in an act of entrepreneurial vision, he decided to sell them... and to his surprise, they sold quickly. The interest was such that his brother restocked him with more fish, until, seeing the potential of the business, they began to breed them at home. Thus, a hobby was born that would eventually become a family tradition that lasted for generations.
With the arrival of communism and the intervention of all private businesses, only the fish managed to survive. Despite the restrictions, breeding and selling continued. Years later, their son Miguel González López —my father— along with his wife, joined this passion. Thanks to his training as a biologist, they took the activity to a more professional level, turning that hobby into a small family business that, although limited by the system, provided valuable economic relief.
In the early 1990s, following the collapse of the European socialist bloc, Cuba lost more than 80% of its imports and fell into a deep recession. By the end of that decade, the regime was forced to timidly relax some economic sectors, allowing the emergence of certain private businesses.
It was then, after graduating with a degree in Biology, that I joined my wife in the family legacy. A new chapter was born, which we would later name “AQUA SANLOGO.” With the effort of the entire family, including our children, we achieved remarkable development: we were pioneers in the breeding of fish and aquatic plants in Cuba, built new facilities, expanded the aquarium, and created an exhibition with more than 50 varieties of species.
Our space not only became a reference for local and foreign clients, but we also formed a group of specialists to provide therapeutic care for children with conditions such as autism, merging nature, science, and emotional well-being.
With the introduction of tourism in Cuba, we were called to begin enhancing the lakes and fountains that were part of the hotel areas. A thorough study then began to achieve closed ecosystems that maintained a biological balance as perfect as possible. We also introduced at this stage the construction of specialized and personalized aquariums, as well as ensuring our clients a maintenance cycle for all the created works.
Everything was developing in harmony until in 2022 we became victims of a brutal act by the communist regime, which took away from us in less than 72 hours what had taken more than 50 years to build.
Renaissance: Aqua Sanlogo Multiservices LLC
From the ashes of that tragedy, a new dream is born: Aqua Sanlogo Multiservices LLC, a project that honors the legacy of three generations and seeks to create an interactive, educational, and therapeutic space, as well as bring all our experience in the creation of fountains, lakes, and specialized aquariums. Aqua Sanlogo Multiservices LLC is born with the mission of merging the passion for aquatic life, science, and emotional well-being, with the goal of positively impacting children, families, and entire communities.
This new beginning represents much more than a business: it is a statement of resilience, love, and hope.
